Antler Lion Dog ( Seal or Stamp )

dimensions:

 3 1/8" high x 2" wide x 3/4" deep

Collected in Japan

Fabulous 18th century stag antler Netsuke depicting a mythological beast, probably a Foo-Dog or Shi-Shi.  Great surface details including circular spots, spiral elements, and well rendered features. Mark on bottom in curved script is the owner's seal, not the signature of the artist.  An excellent example of a classic form.

SOLD

Rough but skilled carving. Original antler form can be clearly seen. Two holes in back, below tail.

Excellent Condition.

Deep golden patina, darker on left side. Nice wear patterns from use.
