Signed ?-get-shi in oval medallion with double border. Same signature as "Man in Bath with Towel".

19th century stained elephant Ivory Netsuke depicting a kneeling figure holding a scroll, seated by a large paper lantern. The scroll has been removed from a wooden box lying at the man's feet, and is partially unrolled.  The figure looks out as if presenting the scroll for some-one to read. Very intricate and well done carving.  Box, Lantern framework, and man's robe are dyed brown.  Hair is dyed slightly darker.  A difficult scene expertly carved from a single piece of ivory.

Excellent Condition.  Lovely patina.
