Jamaican Woodcarving Head by Harris Collected circa 1980 SOLD |
|
|
Excellent folk art Jamaican woodcarving of a head. Tiki-like style with imposing features influenced by African carving. Elongated nose, large eyes, full cheeks and domed forehead. Possibly an ancestor figure. Excellent patina. Lots of character...Tons of mojo...you can feel the juju! Without doubt the carving captures the spirit within! Carved on bottom "Harris, Jamaica". Heavy hardwood, possibly monkey pod or teak. A definite consideration for collectors of Caribbean woodcarving. Very Good Condition with minor wear from age. Original finish is worn, but it just ads to the character of the carving. Yah Mon! |
