          For many years now I have photographed at sunset on special occasions, taking a moment to reflect on times past and the times to come.  This photograph was taken at Natural Bridges State Park in Santa Cruz, on New Years Eve 2003.  As the light faded, the sun was blocked by a mass of blue-gray clouds moving in from the Pacific. The promise of a glorious sunset was slim, but the sky above was clear, and the clouds were backlit with a soft white glow. A deep magenta band of light appeared at the horizon, as the sun gave a final unexpected curtain call.
