Virginia George celebrated the
beauty of the world she lived in through her work, and painted
until the last day of her life in September of 2002. She found great joy in her work,
painting scenes she was familiar with from day to day, in a style influenced by
impressionism, the Taos painters, and early 20th century California
landscape painting.
Her images include scenes of the California coast, desert, and the Sierra
foothills around her home. Virginia worked in oil on canvas, with both
brush
and palette knife. Her work is representative, but pushes beyond realism
to capture the mood and emphasize the beauty of the scene portrayed. Her
palette knife technique is bold and exciting, adding beautiful textures and
vibrancy to her work.
