Mono Lake Paiute

Winnowing Basket

circa 1930

From a California Private Collection.

Dimensions:

approx 30" long x 18" wide x 5" deep

PRICE - $650

Very nice hand woven winnowing / collecting basket.  Darker areas are stained from collecting and leaching acorns.  Pattern on bottom is caused by placement over an indented surface, probably a granite grinding hole during cleaning and / or leaching.

Excellent Condition. A practical basket made for daily use. Displays very well.

Winnowing baskets of this type were used by many California tribal groups for collecting, sorting, and leeching acorns.  Our location just outside Yosemite National Park in Central California results in some excellent examples coming to our attention from time to time.
