Ron Nisar

Unfettered Doodles Anthropomorphic Surrealism
   Rapid Expressionism Black Marker Period

Nisar's most recent works are free-form drawings in ball point pen and colored pencil.  The drawings are the result of a stream of consciousness technique in which Nisar begins the work with no pre-conceived idea, and lets the image evolve organically as it progresses.

Like much of his work, many are essentially landscapes, populated by abstracted beings and amorphous objects.  The work is raw and intuitive, focused more on the evolution of the image than on style or technique.  While the artist states that there is no theme or message intended, many elements recur.  Eyes, mouths, and heads, clouds, tree-like forms with interlocking limbs, and triangular geometric shapes occur from one image to the next.  The end result is mysterious, sometimes disturbing, and sometimes humorous, hinting at emotional and psychological connections, tangible, poignant, and  just out of reach.  While the influence of the surrealists is clearly present, the images also appear influenced by cubism, reminding the viewer at times of the hard edged shapes and forms of Guernica, Pablo Picasso's masterful portrayal of the Spanish Revolution.
